Abstract

Introduction: Organophosphate poisoning is a common cause of intoxication in developing countries due to widespread use and poor handling practices. Objective: To report an unusual case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) following acute organophosphate poisoning. Case presentation: A patient with acute organophosphate intoxication developed cranial nerve VI involvement, bilateral nystagmus, distal hypotonia in all four limbs, foot drop, symmetrical areflexia, and stereotyped movements. Electromyography revealed an acute sensorimotor polyradiculoneuropathy with proximal motor predominance, consistent with GBS. Conclusion: Although rare, GBS should be considered a differential diagnosis in patients presenting with progressive neuromuscular symptoms after organophosphate exposure.
