Abstract

The aim was to compare dietary habits, sleep quality, and eating patterns during work hours between nursing staff working in the operating room with on-call duties and those with rotating shifts in the recovery room, at a Class A hospital affiliated with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, during the year 2023. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative approach was employed. A survey was administered through the Google Forms platform to nursing professionals of both genders, aged 18 to 65, working in the operating room with on-call duties and the recovery room with rotating shifts. The Pearson's Chi-squared test was utilized with a significance level of 5%. Results: The majority of the population (42.64%) fell within the age range of 26 to 35 years. In the operating room, male personnel predominated (67.65%), while in the recovery room, female personnel dominated with a similar percentage. The Pearson's Chi-squared test indicated no statistically significant differences in dietary habits, sleep quality, and eating patterns during work hours between both populations. Conclusions: No significant relationship was found between dietary habits, sleep quality, and eating patterns during work hours among nursing staff with on-call duties in the operating room and those with rotating shifts in the recovery room.
