Abstract

Tinea incognita, a dermatophyte infection with an atypical presentation, is commonly linked to inappropriate use of corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, often due to misdiagnosis or self-medication. Its prevalence is influenced by various factors, such as climatic conditions, poor hygiene habits and contact with animals, affecting individuals of all ages. This report details a case of tinea incognita in a middle-aged woman caused by Trichophyton Schoenleinii. The patient, previously treated with topical and systemic steroids, experienced significant improvement with combined antifungal therapy (topical and oral). The case highlights the diagnostic challenge presented by tinea incognita, given its misleading presentation and similarity to erythematosquamous diseases. It highlights the importance of raising awareness about the prudent use of medications in pathologies without a clear diagnosis.
