Abstract

Herpes zoster is a neurocutaneous infection caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus and occurs more frequently in immunocompromised individuals. Its presentation in immunocompetent pediatric patients is uncommon, which may delay diagnosis. We report the case of a 7-year-old immunocompetent female patient with no relevant medical history who presented with a one-week history of dermatosis localized to the right hemithorax with extension to the ipsilateral axillary region, characterized by vesicular lesions on an erythematous base associated with burning pain. The diagnosis of herpes zoster was established based on clinical findings. Antiviral therapy with acyclovir was initiated, resulting in a favorable clinical course with complete resolution of lesions within four weeks and no complications or sequelae. This case highlights the importance of considering herpes zoster in the differential diagnosis of vesicular dermatoses in immunocompetent children, as early recognition and timely treatment are essential to prevent complications.
